The Orissa High Court on Thursday issued notice to the State Government on allegations of non-payment of compensation to the victims of electrocution.

Treating a letter petition filed by Dillip Kumar Das, Chairman of Bhawanipatna-based voluntary organisation Antoday, a Division Bench of the high court comprising Chief Justice C Nagappan and Justice P Mohanty directed the Government to file response within four weeks.

The petitioner submitted that two young boys from Jilligdara village under Dundelmal panchayat under Junagarh block were injured seriously when they came in contact with low hanging live electric wires while grazing cattle on January 3, 2011.

He alleged that though the NHRC has directed for compensation, no action has been taken by the Government till date.

Indicating several such incidents in various parts of the State like Kalahandi, Jajpur and Balasore, the petitioner appealed to the court to direct the authorities to take adequate measures to prevent the accidents and make payment of compensation to the families of the people who lost their lives or were incapacitated.
